Day +32: ICU

Mina Brigitta's condition worsened this afternoon, and they're sending us to the pediatric intensive care unit tonight. Her vital signs are stable, but she has a very high fever and her face and torso are swelling. The staff in the BMT unit felt uncomfortable with how her condition was changing, so the decision was made to put her in a place where she can be observed more closely. Everyone is acting on the theory that she has Stevens-Johnson syndrome (http://www.emedicine.com/EMERG/topic555.htm) which is a drug reaction. But we won't know anything for sure until the studies start coming back and even then we might not know. Hopefully we'll be back in Room 739 before long, but there's just no way of knowing. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

I am so upset that you have this complication to face. Trust that being in the ICU is going to be helpful to mina. I know it is scary going there but the staff in the icu can give 100 percent to your daughter and help her through this reaction. I pray that she starts to turn around and this time will be a distant memory. my son was in icu over xmas for a severe reaction to ivig during his treatment. I know it is very frightening to think what may happen so lets focus on mina getting through this soon. today is saint justin's day - a day we celebrate for our son justin and his now 1 year post chemo. I will be praying for your family - keep up your strength and stay close to your family.

May every teardrop, every heartfelt prayer and every ounce of our feelings move the Divine to persist with Mina's healing, and give all of us renewed strength, hope, faith and trust to sail through this tempest towards calmer shores.
    Prayers and love,

    Dear Arne and Keri,
Such a frightening experience for you--I so wish there was an easier way to bring little Mina back to health...enclosed are a thousand hugs and prayers to let you know we stand beside you during this difficult time. I pray with great despiration that Mina will respond quickly to the treatment and that her caretakers will be filled with wisdom for the best approach. May God bless you both with abundant strength; you have already been on such an exhaustive journey. Clearly Mina's strong spirit is in part due to your committed love and care for her. Love you so much,
    Renee

    Dear Keri and Arne-

It breaks my heart to read the last few days of postings. I can't even imagine what you are going through. My prayers continue to be with you and with precious little Mina. I know God is looking over her. She is so strong to be able to go through as much as she has so far I know she'll continue to fight hard and get healthy. I'm sure she will be well cared for at the ICU and they will do all they can to help her get better. I will pray also for answers for you so they'll know how to help her fight this and get better. Hugs to you all and hang in their sweet Mina!
